• IF it was good enough for the Queen, it was definitely good enough for the people of Launton.

Just minutes after a Lancaster Bomber plane made a flypast over Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s birthday, it continued on to Oxfordshire to do the same at Launton Fete at 1.45pm.

The flypast was just one of a string of activities that made Saturday a “fantastic day”, according to organiser Wendy Foster.

Elsewhere at the sports and social club were traditional games, such as hook-a-duck, archery, tug-of-war, Maypole dancing and pony rides.

Making an appearance at the fete was Bicester Home Guard, a living history group.

Members, including Steve Harris, donned Second World War outfits to demonstrate what people were doing to help with the war effort at home.

Mr Harris said: “We got a lot of interest from people, young and old. We had one lady from Launton who picked up a photograph of her grandfather she had never seen.”

Ms Foster, of the Launton church fete committee, said: “We had a fantastic day yesterday at Launton fete.

“All I can say about the Lancaster bomber flypast is if it was good enough for the Queen’s birthday it was good enough for the Launtonites.”

Proceeds went to St Mary’s Church funds.
