A GROUP has been set up in Charlbury to promote children’s interest in nature.

Little Wild Things will hold woodland sessions for pre-school children to inspire youngsters to enjoy the outdoors.

The not-for-profit business is the brainchild of Christine Donaldson and Charlotte Hansford, who have both worked in environmental education.

Ms Donaldson said: “During a session children will explore and play through activities specifically designed to further their interest in the natural world.

“Activities might include bug hunting, mud painting or den building. We hope children will become confident outdoors and learn to love nature at an early age.”

The pair say the current generation of children play outside less than earlier generations.

Ms Donaldson added: “This has led to them becoming disconnected from nature at a time when the environmental challenges we face require everyone to take an interest in the natural world.

“Our project aims to give children positive outdoor experiences to reconnect them with nature.”

They aim to raise £6,500 for a minibus to take children to a woodland site, as well as for servicing, licences and branding. They have so far raised £2,400. The project will begin in June.
