RESIDENTS will soon be able to access more council services in Abingdon town centre.

In October the Oxford Mail revealed that about 80 Vale and South Oxfordshire district councils employees were moving from Abbey House in Abingdon to Crowmarsh Gifford. The Vale and Oxfordshire County Council have struck a deal that would see the latter renting space at Abbey House.

It was unclear then which services would still be available to the public at Abbey House.

But this week it has been confirmed that the county council will move its children’s, education, family and social and community services from Abingdon Business Park, on the edge of town, to Abbey House in the centre.

The Vale said residents will still be able to access district services at Abbey House.

Vale leader Matt Barber said: “Our residents will have more council services available in Abingdon town centre, and it makes good sense for the Vale too, contributing to our continued financial stability while improving frontline services.”

County leader Ian Hudspeth said: “Locating council services in one place both better utilises the resources we have and also enables residents to access services more easily.”
