DO you have what it takes to be a firefighter?

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for about 10 new part-time firefighters in West Oxfordshire.

On Tuesday, watch managers Matt Smith and Deb Lamb tried to sign up some new recruits at Chipping Norton leisure centre.

Mr Smith, 44, who works in Deddington and Hook Norton, said: “It went well, we had quite a few enquiries, but it’s early days yet.”

On-call firefighters, formerly called retainees, have all the same duties as full-timers.

They get called to fires, road traffic accidents and chemical spills.

They carry on with their day jobs, but when they get the call they have to drop everything to get to the scene.

On-call crew men and women are needed to work in Chipping Norton, Hook Norton and Charlbury.

Anyone who is interested can call Mr Smith on 07850 425426 or watch manager Deb Lamb on 07554 116580.
