A 19-year-old woman killed in a crash on the A40 this morning has been named locally as Katy Pancott.

The crash took place at 12.35am near the Agrivert plant between Eynsham roundabout and Wolvercote roundabout.

Officers said the woman got out of her own accord from the vehicle, a black C63 Mercedes, that was stationary at the time. She was then hit by a Ford Focus.

She died at the scene and her next of kin have been informed, but Thames Valley Police said formal identification had not yet taken place.

Tributes have been left on social media to Miss Pancott, whose Facebook profile said she worked at Primark.

The driver of the Mercedes has now been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

It is believed officers are trying to establish what happened in the car in the moments before the woman got out.

The A40 was shut for about eight hours following the crash while police investigated the scene, but reopened at about 8am.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the collision, or who saw the girl or the Ford Focus prior to the collision, or the black C63 Mercedes.

Caitlin Marriott, manager at M&S at the petrol station on the Wolvercote roundabout, said: "The road was already closed when we arrived at 6am.

"I came from a different direction but some of the staff had to do huge detour. We just saw the police and assumed there was a crash.

"We haven't been told much information. When one of our guys was doing the forecourt checks, that's when found out the road would open again at 8am."
