NEWLYWEDS have spoken off their devastation after thieves stole wedding gifts and travel vouchers from their reception.

Dave and Joe Earle, from Ruscote in Banbury, got married in Turkey three weeks ago and held a reception at Bonitos Wine Bar on Saturday night.

After leaving wedding presents from family and friends at the wine bar, three thieves broke into the building the next day and left with the presents, as well as a cash till and alcohol.

The couple, who have been together for 14 years, had asked for guests to give Thomas Cook vouchers so they could visit Mr Earle's family in Jamaica for their honeymoon at Christmas.

But now they have said after the break-in it is unlikely they will be able to fund the trip unless the presents are recovered.

Mr Earle, 51, said his wife Joe, 44, who works for Thames Valley Police, was distraught by the break-in.

He said: "Joe has been left devastated by what's happened, mainly because so many people went out of their way to buy us those gifts.

"Our guests have tried to claim their money back from Thomas Cook but haven't had any luck so far.

"It is going to be very difficult for us to raise the money again in less three months, which is obviously very upsetting."

Luckily the pair left six envelopes safely behind the bar that were not stolen, with five containing cash and one a travel voucher.

They were married in Turkey on September 13, with Mr Earle's two sons from a previous marriage, Maxie and Marcus, 22 and 19 respectively, acting as best men.

Mrs Earle's daughter Rose, 21, was the bridesmaid.

Mr Earle, who owns Spit 'n' Sawdust fitness gym in North Bar Street, said: "The two weeks we spent in Turkey were the best of my life, and now this just seems like a blip.

"I know it doesn't take away from the experience we've just had, but I know Joe feels that it has detracted from what's happened."

Thames Valley Police confirmed three people broke into the bar in White Lion Walk between 3.30pm and 3.50pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson they were seen entering and leaving the bar via the fire door and they then walked into St Mary's Church yard.

They described the first thief as white, about 5ft 6ins and slim build, in his mid-30s with short dark hair and possibly wearing jeans.

The second thief was a white woman who had dark hair in a pony tail and was wearing a grey hooded top.

The third thief was white, about 5ft 10ins, of slim build, between 20 and 30 years old, with light brown untidy hair.

Investigating officer PC Paul Froggatt said: "This has caused great upset to the victims who have just celebrated their wedding day, and are unlikely to be able to replace wedding gifts from friends and relatives."
