A MAN in his 70s was killed in a four-vehicle collision on the A420 this morning, police said.

Another man was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with life-threatening injuries and three other people had minor injuries, Thames Valley Police said.

A Ford Focus, a Toyota Auris and a Ford Transit van were involved in a crash with a Ford transit lorry near Faringdon shortly after 9am.

Police spokeswoman Hannah Jones said the driver of the Ford van, a man in his 70s, died at the scene, and his next of kin have been informed.

It brings the death toll in the past 24 hours on the county's roads to four.

She said the male driver of the lorry was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital and three other people were left with minor injuries.

The road was closed after the accident while police investigated the circumstances of the collision, and while the vehicles were recovered. The road repoened just before 4.30pm today.

The police asked anyone who may have any information about the crash to call 101.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene this morning.
