There are severe delays in and out of Oxford along Botley Road after temporary traffic lights were installed today.
The lights have been put in place at the junction of Lamarsh Road and Bullstakes Close as part of drainage work for a new flood defence scheme.
The works have closed one lane coming into the centre creating a bottleneck for drivers in and out of the city.
Queues are stretching back to the centre along Botley Road, past the station and beyond the Westgate Centre, and to the McDonalds in the opposite direction.
Traffic is at a near-standstill in both directions approaching the lights.
The county council's website lists that the road works will be in place until Friday, August 14.
Oxfordshire County Council would not comment on the delays when asked this evening.
