A REGIMENT based in Germany has said farewell to its barracks as it begins the move to Bicester.

After 50 years of service on the continent, soldiers of the 1 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps (1 Regt RLC) are heading to St David’s Barracks at Graven Hill.

A commemorative parade was held at the Gütersloh barracks in North Rhine-Westphalia ahead of the move, which is taking place gradually over the summer.

The 1 Regt RLC has now officially said “auf wiedersehen” and has been awarded the Fahnenband, an honour from the German Federal MoD.

Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Simon Stevenson said: “While we have had a long affiliation and enjoyed our time in Germany it is coming to an end and we are now looking forward to establishing ourselves in Bicester and establishing links with the local communities.”

About 50 single soldiers, the first of about 550 service personnel, have arrived. Most families will move over the summer.
