A BIZARRE painting by television star and comedian Noel Fielding is to be auctioned to raise money for Oxford children’s hospice Helen & Douglas House.
Mr Fielding painted the diptych, entitled “Floppy Hump”, while visiting Waterstones bookshop in Oxford in 2011.
Waterstones donated the painting to the East Oxford hospice, which is now auctioning it through Bonhams to raise funds.
The work, acrylic paint on canvas, depicts a cartoon camel in a top hat in a desert scene saying the words “floppy hump”, and is signed “Noel”.
The two panels together measure 120cm by 150cm and auctioneers have put an estimate on it of £1,000 to £1,500.
Bonhams is planning to auction the work on Wednesday, July 15, at its Oxford auction room in Shipton-on-Cherwell. Helen & Douglas House, in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, provides palliative care for children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
The charity is currently working with about 300 families and also actively supporting more than 60 bereaved families.
It employs 150 people, and the organisation costs about £5m each year to run, the vast majority of which comes from voluntary sources, not the Government.
