A motorist who performed a handbrake turn and cut across three lanes of traffic has been jailed for his dangerous driving.

Aiman Ahmed, of Newland Road, Banbury, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday to a total of 16 months’ imprisonment for two counts of dangerous driving.

Thames Valley Police said the first offence of dangerous driving occurred outside Morrisons supermarket in Cherwell Street at about 4.30pm on April 5 last year.

Ahmed performed a series of dangerous manoeuvres, including a handbrake turn and then cutting across three lanes of traffic while driving a black Toyota GT86.

The second incident happened on the A4260 between Adderbury and Deddington at about 12.40pm on May 17 2014 in a silver VW Scirocco.

According to police, Ahmed attempted a high speed overtaking manoeuvre during which he caused a crash and then failed to stop at the scene.

Two of the vehicles in the crash, a Ford KA and a Mercedes A class, were written off, while extensive damage was caused to a third vehicle, a GLA Mercedes.

Police said two casualties were taken to Horton General Hospital with injuries including whiplash.

Ahmed was arrested on May 17 last year and charged on August 12.

Thames Valley Police said the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences at a hearing on May 5.

A third count of dangerous driving in Banbury on April 9 2014 was denied by Ahmed and the Crown Prosecution Service decided to accept the two guilty pleas.

Investigating officer, PC Richard Medway of the Roads Policing Department based at Bicester, said: “I am extremely pleased with the sentence given to Ahmed, who posed a serious risk to other road users due to his total disregard for anyone else on the road.

“Hopefully this will send a message to motorists who choose to drive dangerously that this will not be tolerated and that justice will prevail.”
