Three people have been injured in a crash on the M40 between junction six for Watlington and junction seven for Thame.

The accident, involving a van and a lorry, happened on the northbound carriageway at about 3pm.

The northbound carriageway was blocked following the incident.

South Central Ambulance spokeswoman Michelle Archer said following the collision the van went into a ditch.

She added that three people were treated for injuries, with one man taken to the John Radcliffe Hopital in Oxford by air ambulance after suffering serious leg injuries.

Traffic on the road was at a standstill following the incident with tailbacks going past Lewknor.

Thames Valley Police tweeted that there was severe congestion due to the serious collision.

All lanes were expected to be open by 6.30pm.
