A BANK Holiday Monday rail strike has been called off after both unions suspended their walkouts.

TSSA and RMT have now confirmed they will not take action on Monday after an offer from Network Rail.

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said: "Our negotiating team at ACAS has received a revised offer from Network Rail.

"As a result of this, they have suspended the planned industrial action, pending the outcome of a meeting of our workplace representatives next week."

The planned strike was due to begin at 5pm on Monday.

As reported in today's Oxford Mail, Oxfordshire travel routes were set to be plunged into chaos by the strike, which would have seen no trains between Didcot and Oxford during the 24-hour walkout.

First Great Western spokesman James Davis said: "We welcome the agreement reached between Network Rail and the RMT and TSSA unions.

"This will come as a huge relief to millions of our customers choosing to travel over the Bank Holiday weekend and to the communities that we serve. We expect to run services as normal."
