TRAVELLERS currently occupying Langford Playing Fields, near Bicester, have been asked to leave by the town council.
About seven caravans set up camp on the fields yesterday evening.
At about midday today, a Bicester Town Council officer visited the site and verbally asked them to leave.
Chief officer Sue Mackrell said this was a formality “the police require for them to issue an eviction notice later this afternoon.”
Earlier, between 8.30am and 9.30am, a patrol from Thames Valley Police had met with the travellers and issued them a ‘code of conduct’ notice.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said: “We received a number of calls notifying us that the travellers have arrived.
“We have sent teams out to speak to the community and the travellers.”
