THEY say rock and roll is a youngsters’ game, but one group of West Oxfordshire rockers are taking it to a whole new level.

With an average age of 12, RockSolid can justifiably claim to be the most youthful live band on the county circuit.

The band – drummer Imogen Gaughan, 14, from Carterton; bassist Gabe Smith, 12; singer 11-year-old Felix Edler; and guitarist Ben O’Connor, 12 – learned their craft at Witney’s World School of Rock (formerly known as Witchwood School of Rock), and show off their talents on their own six track EP Shadows in the Mist, launching at Fat Lil’s, in Corn Street, Witney, on Sunday.

All tracks are original and showcase their knack for anthemic rock and hard-edged punk. While the songs are about stuff that matters to them – the tooth fairy and maths lessons, to name two – they are set to a soundtrack of pure punk rock.

Felix, from Witney, said: “When I started at Witchwood School of Rock when I was eight, I didn’t imagine I would end up in a band and release an EP by the time I was 11. I want to play Wembley Stadium in the future. That would be epic.”

Ben, who also lives in Witney, said: “I am really excited and happy about the EP launch.

“We’ve been working hard on our performance. I’d like RockSolid to continue writing songs and play gigs and festivals around the country. I want to continue playing music and go to music college.”

Gabe, from Buckinghamshire, said: “I only started playing the bass two and-a-half years ago, so I am really proud of the of songs on our EP,.

"I am really looking forward to the gig, as it gives us a big opportunity to show people how amazing RockSolid are.”

He added: “When I am older, I would like to continue to play, perform and produce music.”

RockSolid follow previous West Oxfordshire youth bands Reaper, who formed at Witchwood School of Rock in 2010 aged 10 and have gone on to play semi-professionally everywhere from the O2 Academy Oxford to various London venues, and Twisted State of Mind who also started off at 10, and have gone on to play the USA.

Doors open at 5pm with RockSolid on at about 6.30pm. Tickets cost £2 on the door. RockSolid are also playing at a Battle of the Bands at Koi in Witney on May 14 and at the Burford Festival in June.
