MORE than 120 homes in Headington will be without power until 7pm tonight, SSE said.

The original fault, at 10.30am this morning, left 900 properties without power.

Engineers have returned power to 710 of them, with the remaining homes set to be switched back on at 1.30pm.

In order to fix the problem staff have had to take another 127 properties off the grid and they will not be back to normal until 7pm.

Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman Matthew Pittam said: “The fault was at a link box and that fed back up the line to a substation.

“That caused the substation to overheat and produce smoke but it’s not a fire.

“Everything is safe and engineers are on site to fix the problem.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
