A WOMAN was been taken to hospital today after being involved in a collision with a taxi on Oxford High Street.

Police and ambulance services were called to the scene opposite The Queen's College at about 5.10pm.

Eyewitnesses described the pedestrian as "breathing but unresponsive".

Sergeant Sharon Scarff confirmed that crash scene investigators were on scene, attempting to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Tourist Francis Lind was walking up the high street when he saw a crowd of people trying to help the woman.

The 23-year-old, who is also a first responder, said: "A doctor came on the scene, she ascertained that the lady was breathing but unresponsive.

"I saw a lot of blood on her head and her leg was twisted quite badly."

South Central Ambulance Service said a 30-year-old woman was taken John Radcliffe Hospital with possible leg injuries.

A doctor was sent, as was a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance, the service added.

Outbound was closed with traffic queueing along Iffley Road, Donnington Bridge Road and Abingdon Road to Weirs Lane. 

The road has since reopened.
