MORE than 40 firefighters tackled a blaze which broke out in a block of flats in Cowley this morning.
The fire service was called to the scene of the fire on the fifth floor of Hockmore Tower Block at about 10.30am.
A spokesman for the fire service said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and extinguished the blaze.
Adjoining flats were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Fire engines were sent from Wheatley, Oxford, Thame, Headington, Bicester, Eynsham, Witney and Bampton.
