Johnny Mullins says Oxford United’s squad have the quality to get themselves out of trouble even without help from new signings.

The squad for today’s meeting with Exeter City at the Kassam Stadium looks likely to be unchanged following another fruitless week for the club during the January transfer window.

Head coach Michael Appleton wants to bring in new faces to help a side which has won just one of their last six games to slip within three points of the relegation zone.

While Mullins agrees there could be a benefit, the defender is adamant the existing players are good enough to improve the situation quickly.

He said: “It may be (a help), but if they don’t come we know we’ve got enough within the squad.

“There are some very good players here, although we didn’t show it last weekend.

“The best thing in football is there’s another chance on Saturday, but those chances will run out if we don’t take one sooner rather than later.

“We know what we’re capable of, but there’s no point talking about it, we have to produce.”

Appleton expects the 18-man squad to be unchanged from the 3-2 defeat to Southend United last weekend, so Danny Rose looks set to miss out once more.

Will Hoskins is struggling with a groin injury, meaning Patrick Hoban could make a first start.

Clinton Morrison (hamstring) and Pat Baldwin (knee) are ruled out for Exeter, but Christian Ribeiro is likely to return to the side.

Their danger man is striker Tom Nichols, who has nine goals in his last 11 league appearances.
