A £6M overhaul of Oxford’s Clarendon Centre has been completed with the addition of a new fashion shop.

The newly upgraded area has replaced the Currys Digital store with a three-storey H&M shop.

The building’s central space has also been turned into an atrium, giving views to the upper floors of the development.

Nick Marchini, of architects Marchini Curran Associates, said: “We are very pleased to have been associated with the Clarendon Centre for several years and this has been an exciting and important piece of work for us.

“The new retail units and the regeneration of the mall’s atrium have given it a new lease of life, making it a much lighter, brighter and attractive place to shop.

“We look forward to seeing the new-look centre bustling with shoppers.”

The mall is inside an Archaeological Priority Zone and before work could start its owners had to call in archaeologists to assess the site.

They found stone walls, foundations and cess pits thought to have belonged to a 17th Century building.

The findings were placed in an exhibition for members of the public that also included other artefacts uncovered.
