FIREFIGHTERS were able to stop a roof fire spreading and destroying the rest of the house last night.

The fire broke out in the loft of the home in Blenheim Drive, Witney, at about 8.15pm.

A spokeswoman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a fire in Witney at 8.27pm.

“Four fire trucks attended the fire where 75 per cent of the roof was destroyed.

“We were able to save the remaining 25 and waterproof the property.”

Fire scene investigators conducted an investigation but have not released the cause of the fire.

The fire service has not said how many people were in the property at the time but all occupants escaped.

The occupants, a middle-aged couple and their daughter, escaped the fire.

Oxford Station Manager Paul Molloy said: “We believe it to be an electrical fire.

“We weren’t able to identify the root cause because of the damage caused to the roof.”
