PEOPLE who are alone and vulnerable over Christmas have been given a helping hand by the police.

Hampers containing non-perishable food, clothing and entertainment were handed out by Thames Valley Police South and Vale neighbourhood policing teams.

Items were donated by the public, businesses and organisations.

Those who received hampers included people who have been victims of crime before, the elderly and the disabled.

Pc Beverley Kaur, from the Didcot team, said: “Over the last few weeks we have made Christmas hampers and delivered them to people.

“We went to the Didcot Health and Wellbeing Centre because they said a few of their visitors who live on their own and they don’t have any family.

“We spent a couple of hours there chatting to them. They were overwhelmed by the hampers, they said it made their day.

“As well as giving out six hampers today we left the rest with the centre so when someone who’s eligible comes in they can give them a package from us.”
