COVERED Market traders will go ‘uncovered’ today in Oxford as traders set up their stalls in Queen Street.

Oxford City Council spokesman Chofamba Sithole said the event was being staged to raise the profile of the market, which opened in 1774 to remove messy stalls from the city’s streets.

Mitzi Feller, from M Feller butchers, said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to interact with tourists and local people.

“We were on stalls in Market Street yesterday and a lot of people didn’t even know the Covered Market existed.

“The market offers quality produce that’s sourced locally, and it’s all seasonal.”

The Covered Market will be open as usual between 8am and 5.30pm. Mr Sithole added: “The main aim of the event is to improve the awareness of the venue. It will also add to the festive shopping atmosphere.”
