A TRAIN manager was assaulted and passengers came to his aid on a train to Banbury.

British Transport Police said the attack happened on the 4.55pm Birmingham to London service between Leamington Spa and Banbury on Saturday.

PC Liam Deasley, said the manager was checking tickets “when he became involved in an altercation with a male passenger in the centre carriage of the train.”

He said: “The passenger is then alleged to have followed the member of staff into the rear carriage of the train where he assaulted him.

“The train was busy and a number of passengers came to the aid of the member of staff following the incident.”

A 29-year-old Birmingham man was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed to December 27.
