A decision on whether to allow or reject two pedestrian crossings on which a housing estate could be determined was postponed to December.
An initial decision to approve the crossings on Ock Street and Marcham Road in Abingdon was “called-in” by Oxfordshire County Council’s scrutiny committee.
Yesterday, the cabinet agreed to defer consideration to the next meeting so that a fuller report could be prepared.
The crossings were made mandatory by a Government planning inspector for a 160-home estate on Drayton Road to go ahead.
Sheffield-based Hallam Land Management applied to build 160 homes at the site in 2012. It was opposed largely on grounds it would create too much traffic.
Vale of White Horse District Council’s planning committee refused the plan last year as it would cause “unacceptable” amounts of traffic.
The firm appealed and won, but only on the condition that it pay for two new pedestrian crossings; the idea being that using these crossings would break up traffic queues exacerbated by the estate.
