Campaigners have called a public meeting in Jericho to discuss a report produced for Oxford University on the controversial Castle Mill student flats.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was submitted to Oxford City Council on October 30, launching a seven-week consultation that ends on Thursday, December 18.

On Thursday next week, the Save Port Meadow Campaign will meet at St Barnabas Church, in Canal Street, to discuss the report’s findings.

The group is aligned with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), which recently threatened to take the city council back to the High Court if it did not order the university to reduce the height of the flats.

It claims they spoil views of Oxford from Port Meadow and called for a judicial review of the permission to build them at the High Court last October.

The case was thrown out because the judge said a review was unnecessary, in light of the university’s decision to produce an EIA.

The meeting will run from 7.30pm to 9pm.

The city council’s west area planning committee is due to discuss the EIA and the flats early in the new year. The university’s favoured option is to change the colour of the buildings and plant more trees.
