Callers to the police's non-emergency 101 number are being urged to stay on the line despite problems.

The automated message is not being heard when callers dial the number.

But Thames Valley Police spokesman Parmvir Singh said callers would get through to the force if they stayed on the line.

The length of time waiting would depend on demand.

The phone service provider has been made aware of the fault on the line, according to police, and are working to fix the issue.

The issue is affecting forces nationally and not just Thames Valley Police.
