NATIONAL treasure Stephen Fry met fans in the Bodleian Library for a “hackathon”.
The host of BBC quiz show QI was in Oxford to promote his new book, More Fool Me, and challenged people to create new ways of presenting the show.
The project – dubbed “YourFry” – saw visitors create films, apps, photographs, 3D models, animations, data or visualisations inspired by the comedian’s latest work. It was part of a worldwide competition closing on December 1.
Bodleian Library staff member Kim Wicks, of Chipping Norton, said Mr Fry arrived to discuss people’s creations and give a talk about the project.
The 31-year-old said: “I nearly exploded. He starting walking over to me and for about 30 seconds I forgot the English language.
“But he’s really incredible in person and really tall. You do not realise just how tall he is until you meet him.”
Entries to the competition were themed around “many faces, many selves” and “the self in the digital era”.
The event was held in partnership with Penguin Books and the Oxford Internet Institute.
