RADIOGRAPHERS from Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital went on strike for four hours yesterday in protest at a pay freeze.

About 30 members of the Society of Radiographers, who work in radiology and cancer treatment departments, were picketing between 9am and 1pm.

The strike is because the Government refused a one per cent pay rise for radiographers for 2015.

Society representative for the John Radcliffe Hospital, Julie-Anne Moreland, said: “After inflation, radiographers have seen a pay drop of up to 15 per cent because we’ve not seen a pay increase for the last four years. It’s enough.”

The diagnostic radiographer, from Abingdon, added: “Living in Oxford has really high costs. We love working at the JR but it’s hard when living costs are so high and you’re missing that pay rise.

“Rents are extortionate and it makes a big difference.”

She said the picket went well, with emergency cases continuing to be covered.

She added: “There seemed to be quite a lot of public support for our cause and none of our patients were affected.”
