OXFORD’S own burlesque star Fabia Cerra hosted a special dancing class over the weekend to raise money for charity.

The 40-year-old mother-of-one shot to fame in 2009 by appearing on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

Since then she has been crowned Miss Pin-Up UK at a ceremony in London.

On Saturday she hosted the special burlesque class at Temple Cowley Pools to raise money for Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer.

Ms Cerra said: “It is a beginners session and it is working on glove-peeling, how to dance with feather boas and fan-dancing as well.

“There are giggles and a lot of fun along the way but obviously there is a serious side to this. In some way all of us are affected by breast cancer.”

Eight people attended the two-hour class and it raised £100 for charity.

Ms Cerra said she got into burlesque dancing after giving birth to her son in 2005 and added the dance form helped her get back her confidence.

As well as appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, she was also notable for falling off the stage when she featured on BBC One’s So You Think You Can Dance.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and many groups and charities organise fundraising events throughout the month, often while wearing pink.
