MADE by kids, for kids, these “goblin cars” have proved a roaring success.

Children at The Hendreds Primary School built the kit carts from a box full of metal tubes they ordered through the post.

On Sunday they got to race their creations at up to 15mph against 70 schools from across the country at Goodwood race course, West Sussex.

Their teacher Chris Savage, who oversaw the fun, said: “It’s been fantastic. The children got to build them from a pile of tubes.

“The kids have to work out how it all works, how to put the chassis together and they loved it.

“At the start they didn’t know what a Phillips screwdriver was, by the end they were yelling over to the others ‘can you pass me a 13mm socket wrench’.”

The cars, which the school built as part of a study of green energy, run on 12v batteries.
