AN EDIBLE garden won top prize at the Blenheim Palace Flower Show yesterday.

Children from Blackbird Leys Academy – composed of Pegasus Primary School, Windale Primary School and Orchard Meadow Primary School – have won a Gold Award for their entry entitled Eat Your Garden.

It is made of entirely edible plants, such as English marigolds and purple basil, with an orange and yellow colour scheme.

The certificate was presented by TV horticultural experts Monty Don and Jim Buttress, who opened the weekend-long show.

The academy’s executive head Jill Hudson described the garden as brilliant and said: “One of our ambitions is that the children should be out in the real world.

“The children run gardens and allotments at their schools, some of the vegetables have already gone in the school dinners, and they love it.

“When the offer came through for this how could we say no?”

The show runs until tomorrow.
