A MAN has been charged in connection with a crash that saw 100 litres of fuel spill onto the A40 from a damaged lorry.

A 53-year-old was charged with five offences following last night's collision on the A40 at Headington.

Thomas Scanlon, of Stafford Road in Ruislip, Hillingdon, was arrested at the scene, on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without a licence or third party insurance and drink driving.

He will appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on June 24.

Police said a red Astra was involved in last night's collision with two articulated lorries at about 7.30pm on the southbound carriageway heading east.

The lorry’s fuel tank was punctured with 100 litres of diesel spilling on the road.

It was closed for two-and-a-hour hours while the fuel was cleared.
