Oxford Mail: RBL Ride Of Respect on sunday Morning

Thousands of bikers gathered at Dalton Barracks in Abingdon this morning before setting off on the Ride of Respect.

As the bikers paraded past, hundreds of families lined the route, with some well-wishers sitting in the sunshine in deckchairs.

Some bikers were former servicemen and women while others were civilians who wanted to pay tribute to the sacrifice British forces have made in past and present conflicts.

Bike enthusiast Anne Cole, from Gloucester, has been organising the event since 2010 with her friend Julia Stevenson.

She said: "The event is to salute our troops both current and past and to say thank you to the families of the fallen for what they have given.

"Bikers are one big family and the word about it just spreads."

The ride is now in its fifth year and all proceeds from the Ride of Respect go towards the Royal British Legion and its work to support the armed forces.
