UP to 1,200 people will today start to arrive at Oxfordshire’s first music festival of the year.

Wood, which takes place at Braziers Park, near Wallingford, is described by its organisers as a cross between an environmentally-friendly summer camp and a wedding party.

The award-winning event is run along environmentally friendly lines, is practically carbon neutral and is fuelled by green energy – much of it generated by solar panels.

Between now and Sunday night, it will play host to 50 bands and artists and scores of craftspeople and countryside experts who will lead nature walks and workshops, with festival-goers invited to create everything from a communal rag rug to a wormery.

Wood is organised by musician brothers Robin and Joe Bennett.

Robin, from East Oxford, said: “It looks like it’s going to be an amazing weekend. The site looks beautiful, with tipis, yurts and lots of colourful flags. Even the weather looks good.”

Tonight’s session will be headlined by singer-songwriter Luke Sital-Singh.

Weekend tickets cost £75 including camping. Day tickets are also available on the gate. Children aged 12 and under go free if accompanied by an adult. Go to woodfestival.com
