MOST artists tend to use brushes to create their masterpieces.

But Oxford Brookes University student Zoe Maslen has maybe taken it a bit literally.

The 21-year-old has been collecting her own hair from her hairbrushes to craft her artworks.

Ms Maslen, of Headington, said: “I try to create an environment in which the viewer can see a presence. That includes hollow objects which hold ghostly forms of bodily fragments and negative impressions.

“I use hair as my medium as it is something everyone relates to and provokes questions about what it belongs or belonged to.

“And with this material it has its own beautiful form.”

Titled The Absent’s Presence, the collection is part of the degree show at the Headington campus in Gipsy Lane. It features 24 different pieces of hair-impression prints.

The works will go on display from Thursday, May 22, in the OVADA gallery, Osney Lane, until Sunday, May 25.

They will then go on to an exhibition in London at the Old Truman Brewery, in Brick Lane, from Sunday, May 26 to Monday, June 30.
