JACQUI Budd will join a record 1,430 people on the OX5 Run on Sunday for the “fantastic” hospital that cared for her daughter.

She will be among those taking on the five-mile course at Woodstock’s Blenheim Palace from 10.30am in aid of Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Joining her in a baby carrier or a pram will be six-month-old daughter Sienna Hicklin, who was cared for at the Headington hospital.

With six other relatives and friends Bicester-born Miss Budd has raised £435.

The tot was born to Miss Budd and Steve Hicklin, 33, on October 4 in the maternity unit at Chipping Norton Community Hospital.

But she was moved to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital the next day after a nurse spotted she was showing signs of Down’s Syndrome and wasn’t feeding properly.

Doctors confirmed Sienna had Down’s Syndrome, along with Hirshprung’s disease, a disorder that affects bowel development.

At three days old, Sienna had emergency surgery on her abdomen, and another bowel operation at the children’s hospital on February 25.

Accountant Miss Budd, 34, who recently moved from Burford to Cheltenham, said: “The first few weeks after she was born were like a horrible dream.

“I felt numb and cried a lot. But she is an amazing child with such fighting spirit and she has carried me through.

“She isn’t the baby I thought I’d have, but we simply adore her.”

Children’s hospital spokesman Sarah Vaccari said: “It is humbling when a family who are still in the midst of so much find the time and energy to come together and support the hospital treating their child.”

Online registration for the run has now closed.
