Am Dram Man is Lance Bassett who joined the Group way back in 1971 as a child actor it must be said. (Well nearly)
So that’s it then. The annual Drama Splinter Group returned from Eastbourne having fitted in brilliantly with the locals. A bus trip to Beachy Head and another to Hastings all included. My my here we are having joined the stick and wheel club and I don’t even remember applying for membership.
Our ‘A Brief Encounter with Noel Coward’ evening is in full rehearsal with the ‘Still Life’ play nearing books down and the poetry/songs/performance pieces for the other half of the evening all in place.
‘Still Life’ rehearsals steam on with some keen types having books down already.
Rehearsals continue on ‘Still Life’ with a makeshift set as plans are formed to turn the village hall stage into a replica of Carnforth railway station over the next few weeks. Brief Encounter is one of my all time favourite films so it’s a labour of love rehearsing this time.
So rehearsals are now in full swing and Still Life begins to take shape. As we all know by now this is the play from which the film Brief Encounter was made, one of Noel Coward’s finest productions. So I am enjoying the rehearsals immensely.
The sun shone beautifully last Sunday for the annual BBQ and it was also very well attended. Good food, good drink, good company….no one misbehaved, good grief…so there you go another successful event by KBDG. Thanks to Andrea and Paul for their hospitality and to everyone else who came along for the array of food especially the desserts.
This week saw the annual Childrens’ Workshop in full swing with two full days of tuition being put in by the Group’s keen types with 20 children under the age of 10 attending the Circus themed event on Wednesday, and Thursday the 10-14 year olds threw themselves into a modern version of Oliver.
Tuesday night was audition night for the November production 'A Brief Encounter with Noel Coward featuring Still Life'. One Nick O' Keeffe is directing the show which runs from 26th - 28th November. The plan is to host a gala supper evening on the Saturday night in honour of the group's 60th anniversary to which we are hoping to invite former members to join us. Should any ex-members read this and you would like to attend the Gala night, please let me know.
Club night this week found us reading through Noel Coward’s Still Life with a view to auditioning for desired parts next week.
Open auditions for our 60th Anniversary Production of 'A Brief Encounter with Noel Coward' will be held on Tuesday 4th August at Southmoor Village Hall. There will be the opportunity to audition for the one-act production of Still Life as well as a selection of short extracts/poems/songs etc from other Coward works. There are parts available for all ages. Also if you are interested in backstage/lighting/technical/producer/costume/props/front of house you should also come along on that date as we will be providing a gala supper as part of the Saturday night we do need all hands on deck.
