Our Cluedo Derby was a big success at the Village Fete last Saturday. We actually made a bit of a profit as well, which was a bonus.

Now the spring play and ODN festival have finished there are stirrings again on a Tuesday night towards future events. Last week for example there was much talk and steam generated about the forthcoming ‘Forties to Noughties’ Quiz Night. (This Saturday 7.30pm Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor Village Hall).

It's a real grind at the Mill......

Well I managed to get to the Unicorn Theatre last Thursday to see our offering in the ODN festival, Kill Jill, written by Mark Wheeler and performed mostly by the youth section of our group. The adjudicator for the festival Paul Fowler was quite kind to the cast I thought as there were numerous prompts but I guess nerves were in play and all credit must be given to the young folk for performing in a festival play in the first place.

A Fleeting weekend in Hampshire.........

Posted on 12:08pm Tuesday 2nd June 2009

Last Tuesday we staged our two ODN festival entries in the village hall for the benefit of the local audience and I am told they went down well. Now I was going but had a birthday celebration to attend in the afternoon and never made the hall. I feel quite bad about this, but not as bad as I felt Wednesday morning I can tell you. Anyway I shall be attending the performance at the Unicorn this week instead.

Tomorrow night is a rehearsed performance at the Village Hall of our festival entries ‘Kill Jill’ and ‘When a Man Knows’. We normally do this for the village audience prior to festival week, entry will be £3 on the door and we will be offering refreshments so here’s a cheap night out previewing two plays. Doors open at 7pm, performance starts at 7.30.

Another successful production has come and gone. The Memory of Water by Shelagh Stephenson contained moving, intelligent and witty performances from a superb cast, and received fabulous comments from the audiences who came to see it. The audience numbers were a little disappointing but the timing of our usual April slot was changed this year and this may have caught people unawares; the play is also not well-known so maybe we should have done more to let people know what it was about. However, those people who did turn up were well entertained, and gave us great feedback.

Walking back to happiness......

Posted on 9:33am Tuesday 21st April 2009

‘The Memory of water’ is coming together well. To quote from our playmeister and leader young Kate ‘Tuesday's rehearsal was a run of Act One. This was quite a slow affair, but all the acting was on top form. Characters are now totally believable and the feelings and intentions on show are all moving in the right direction. Just a bit of tightening of the pace and it's a corker. We worked on the last section of Act One, which is the very difficult trying-on-of-dead-mother's-clothes bit. Lots of parallel conservations and much wardrobe business make this one of the trickiest parts of the play. But after several runs, the cast were on top of it. Act Two follows next week...’ So there you have it, from the horse’s mouth as it were.
