No news week this week. Rehearsals continue apace, committee meeting is not until next week, what do I do for news? Well it never ceases to amaze me for starters how just enough news happens each day to fill a newspaper. It is also interesting I find, when reading the obituaries that people die in alphabetical order.
So what shall we talk about? Even old Chuffer’s love life seems to have come to a ceasefire. He has bought another car. This time he has gone Italian and purchased a Fiat. Probably fancies himself as some suave Italian lover eh?
Old Chuffer-what would we do without him?
Well as I prepare to celebrate the birthday tomorrow of Max Wall, born March 12th in 1908, my mind goes back to the halcyon days of BBC Radio. For people of a certain age Sunday lunch times will also be remembered for the Billy Cotton Band Show, Two Way Family Favourites, Archie Andrews, Al Reid etc., my they were golden days for radio. Will Ant & Dec be remembered in forty years time? I think not.
Before I go and top up my Gin & Tonic I shall enlighten readers as to my day on Sunday. The only drama that has happened this week.
I awoke full of the joys of spring and firstly stubbed my toe, which throbbed painfully for the rest of the day.
Going outside I find some mindless tow rag had vandalised the garden. Hanging is too good for these oiks and I firmly believe a head on a pole, as a deterrent, is still a great idea.
I had nearly finished washing her ladyships car and it started to rain, the wind blew over the bottle of black Colour Magic and stained my block drive.
We went to my son’s pub for Sunday lunch and they had sold out of roasts. By now my sunny disposition was becoming overshadowed I can tell you. Still look on the bright side I thought, my lot is still better than that of Ralph and Edna I guess, but their love story is very touching.
Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool. Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.
Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.
When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love. I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness.
The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.'
Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?'
