Oxpens is a good move

AT last, the Government has given the go-ahead for the upgrading of Oxford railway station.

I do hope that they make the most of this opportunity because I can’t see that there will be another one in the future.

A move to the Oxpens site looks to be the best option because it will give the space for a great many of those much-needed improvements that have been talked about for so long.

There will be a chance to produce buildings more in keeping with a great city and, hopefully, a surrounding area that visitors will be impressed with.

Then there is that long-awaited chance for the city to have an integrated transport hub.

If this move is made, it should then be possible to redesign Frideswide Square into less of a bottleneck. And wouldn’t it be nice if, at the same time, the railway bridge could be rebuilt to give Botley Road the width that it so desperately needs?

I’m sure that there are many other advantages to this move but, for the mean time, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
