I cannot believe that the Oxford Mail published a review of the lapdancing at The Lodge (July 22) as if it were just a normal night out.
Your reporter said that, before he went he “always felt that they are, in essence, degrading and distasteful establishments built to exploit women”.
Too right they are. They sell the idea that a woman can be bought and sold to titillate men, as long as men have enough cash to pay for them. They represent women as sex objects – and this in a society where sexual violence against women and girls is frighteningly common.
They demean men as well. Your reporter was won round to the club, apparently, by the fact that the dancers were good looking, whereas he had expected them to be “old and ugly”.
