Cyclists need their own lanes

2:56pm Monday 8th February 2010

IF POLICE in Oxford have warned 112 cyclists since October for using pavements, did they stop to ask why?

In a genuine cycling city like Copenhagen, this situation would never happen.

Cyclists need their own safe bike lanes on all roads and marked routes across junctions, plus rights in law giving protection and priority.

Only then will pedestrians, cyclists and motorists all be able to get from A to B without competing for space.

To find, for example, an Oxford bus stop in a bike lane instead of to the right is shocking. Provision for cyclists in Oxford could be so much better. Laura Townsend, Beech Road, Chinnor
