Use the cycle lane

Now that the new bus lane is open at Headington, can we teach cyclists to use the new cycle lane provided as well. They still use the bus lane, causing buses to swerve out of the bus lane and into the stream of traffic. Cyclists are constantly moaning that they are overlooked, but now they have their own lane, they won’t use it.

It is there for their safety, far better than playing with the buses.

You want to see the crazy people cycling along the A40 from Eynsham to Oxford, and thats when they have not one but two cycle paths alongside.

To get cyclists to use a cycle lane all that needs to be done is to build a decent cycle lane.

Painting a line down the middle of a pavement does not make a good cycle lane. This takes important space away from pedestrians who often ignore the painted line and walk on the cycle path.

For the safety of pedestrians it's often best to avoid cycle paths.

Floey, so does painting a White Line on the side or middle of the road make a good cycle lane then?. If not what is the answer?

Create a flat, continuous track. A track where you have to stop for every side road / drive / tree / busstop. This should be on both sides of the road so you don't have to cross the road to join it.

If this is not possible do not create a cycle path.

The Dutch, Germans, Danish and may other countries have been making good cycle paths for years. I find it amazing that planners in Oxford get it so wrong.

Floey The countries that you quote have a far lower population density than us,and as such have more spare land area, also they throw out their illegals, giving them more money and space to build dedicated cycle lanes. If we were to do the same then you would be able to cycle to your hearts content. But as all of our money is being spent on legal aid for terrorists and preachers of hate, we have to put up with bad roads and cycle lanes. Everybody back in the trenches, it is about to explode !!

Holland has around twice the population density as the UK.

You do come out with a lot of nonsense.

Darling Floey. You should be a Nu Labour statistition. OK the dope smokers have a density of 395. But the U.K. Germany, and Denmark have respectively 246,232, and for denmark only 126 which is nearly half that of the UK. AS it has been stated there are lies, **** lies, and then Floeys statistics.

All cyclists has to do is obey the Highway code and there would be a remarkable reduction in accidents. Me and Lisa have no problems cycling on the roads in Oxford because we stop at red lights, have lights that work, cycle down one way streets the RIGHT way, do not attempt to overtake vechicles on the inside when they are clearly indicating to turn left, and ride in cycle lanes. Easy.

Creating a flat continuous track for cyclists is ok, but how about getting some proper roads for the fee paying users first? I would like one day to go to work in my car or on my motorbike on a decent surface.
