READING the article ‘Memorial Ruling Upsets Relatives’ (Oxford Mail, June 24) while I know it is easy to say, the things people should understand when they ask for permission for a burial in a churchyard or council-owned and run burial ground: relatives never own that plot of land. It always remains in the ownership of the church or council and by accepting the permission to bury someone they also accept the rules of the owners of that land and, if they disagree with those rules, they should consider another burial ground.
We’ve all seen churchyards covered in plastic flowers, wooden structures and kerbs and surrounds made of second-hand pieces of wood.
Horspath has a new burial ground and, by people ignoring the rules, it’s already starting to look a mess.
Remember rules are rules.
