I NOTICE that some trades and professions are worried that, if they are denied access to Europe and the wider world, there will be a shortage of skilled labour. It does seem rather unfair that Britain should strip other countries of their skilled people when it should be training its own.
I know that some trades are finding it difficult to recruit apprentices of the right quality because there is a general belief that if a pupil is doing well in exams he should go to university and that trades should take the less able – or is this an excuse used by bosses who are loathe to spend money on training?
