CAN I correct a couple of misleading statements made by Chaka Artwell in his diatribe about Bob Price.

If youth provision on the city’s estates is “poor”, this is not the result of the city council’s policies but a direct result of the massive cuts to the youth service made by the county council in the early 2010s.

The county council is the body which has the statutory responsible for youth provision and the city council has been left trying, through its Youth Ambition programme, to plug the gaps left by the cuts.

Artwell also claims that the cities community centres are “now controlled directly by the city council”. This is not the case for the majority of the cities community centres. Out of the 17 centres owned by the city council, 12 are run by local community associations, which are independent charities.

The remaining 10 centres, which are not owned by the council, are run by a variety of bodies, including community associations, housing associations, churches and parish councils.
