A FEW months ago, I started to feel unwell, lack of energy, tired, not sleeping well. At the time I put this down to getting older, etc (as we do).

It was only having a blood test during my annual check-up with my doctor that I was found to have a high amount of calcium on receiving the results. This had never shown up on previous tests.

An appointment was made for me to attend the Churchill Hospital for a scan. The scan showed a nodule on my parathyroid (hormone) which was not working to control the calcium in my system. A few weeks later I was admitted to the head and neck unit at the Churchill Hospital for the removal of the hormone. I was only in for the one day whilst this was done.

Six weeks after the op I was amazed how much better I felt.
This was thanks to the expert treatment I received before, during and after the operation. Thanks to the consultant Dr Rady Mihai and his team. After visiting the doctor recently for a review of the treatment, I was given the all-clear and the hospital would not have to see me again.

Whilst talking to Dr Mihai I was surprised to be told that in the doctor’s view, it is possible many people could be diagnosed with this problem. A blood test for calcium will prove this.

My main point with this letter is, if you have experienced symptoms that I had, just ask for a blood test and if the results show a high level of calcium the unit at the hospital will sort you out.
