YOUR editorial today (June 27) is wrong to say that ‘a decision was taken to clothe Evenlode and Windrush Towers in a material that was not up to highest quality standard’. The aluminium composite material used for these panels was fully compliant with Building Regulations and British Standards.

It is widely used and was designated as fire resistant and low risk, particularly when used in conjunction with non-combustible insulation material (Rockwool), as in this case. Our design team consulted in detail with the Fire and Rescue Service in developing the specification for the modernisation of the tower blocks.

The reality is that the tests now being used on these panels have shifted the goalposts. They have raised the threshold of combustibility far above the standard that was previously required. We do not object to that.

The safety of our tenants is our top priority. But we do object to your suggestion that the panel material selected was not of the required standard as set down in the national regulations. It was.
