WHERE do the planning officers on the council get their ideas from – out of a jamboree bag?

The fiasco regarding the buses turning wherever if Queen Street is fully pedestrianised is still up in the air.

What idiot has come up with the idea of a proposed taxi rank on Cornmarket? To pedestrianise one street and then allow vehicles in a street which has been pedestrianised for years is stupid.

So the powers-that-be put forward plans last summer saying that a proposed massive increase in shoppers when the Westgate opens would make Queen Street unsuitable for buses.

There may well be a massive increase in shoppers initially but with the extortionate parking charges in the new 1,000 space car park and the cost of park and ride, people will continue to travel to other towns such as Milton Keynes as they do now. Before long, many of the smaller retail units will become empty because of falling business and high rents.

All the proposed alterations at the various junctions mentioned will cause chaos.

How long before plans will have to be rethought, wasting more local taxpayers’ money? Let’s not forget Cornmarket had to be totally resurfaced because of inferior materials and The Plain has been done twice with different layouts in just a few short years .
